This article is part of an ongoing master's research in the Graduate Program of the Professional Master's in Education, at the University of Taubaté. It aims to show the progress of the analyzes of this research that seek to understand, together with the team of the Núcleos de Apoio às Pessoas com Necessidades Educacionais Específicas (NAPNE), the gaps present in the functioning and support of students target audience of Special Education, enrolled in a campus of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of São Paulo. The article presents one of the categories analyzed in the dissertation, which had as its main focus the discussions about ableism, a form that names prejudice and discrimination against disabled people. The objective of this work is to understand the conceptions of ableism rooted in Society and reproduced within educational institutions, which harm the process of schooling and development of students with disabilities. The study has a qualitative approach and was developed through collaborative research. Members of the NAPNE from a campus in the metropolitan region of Vale do Paraíba Paulista were invited to participate in this study. The Conversation Circle was used as an instrument for producing information. The information was interpreted from the content analysis of Bardin (2016). It is hoped that this study can contribute to the expansion and strengthening of the Nucleus' actions, making it possible to minimize ableism barriers and limitations. In this way, it can serve as an incentive to build a school that respects and values differences and diversity.
