Abstract

Recognizing that the teacher to teach, arises not only as a professional but also as a person, it seems necessary to know the subjectivity of those who are conducting the teaching process. Thus, this study aims to analyze the conceptions of the teaching profession and how they are configured within the process of identity construction of teachers through a survey conducted in 2010 with the licensing of a pedagogy course. It was observed that in the design of research subjects the teaching profession is perceived as a low status activity and undervalued, and identified a tendency to idealization, since describing the profession as a priesthood. Data analysis points to the need for public policies that enhance the teaching profession.
