Revisiting the book The Laws of imitation, an original by Gabriel Tarde from 1890, may seem late and out of time if we conclude that it already has 131 years of existence. However, in a contingency strongly marked by relationships, conversations and interactions mediated by computers and connected by the internet, on digital platforms usually animated by possibilities for sharing, commenting and copying content, we believe that we will revisit this classic, which focuses precisely on similarities and copies , will allow some (in)flexions to social theory, renewing it. In addition, this revisit has another contingency: the Covid-19 pandemic. The current historical moment reminds us, precisely, of an idea that is latent and invariably forgotten over time, yet embodied in several works by this French sociologist, which here, in particular, reaches greater amplitude: just as viruses live in hosts, so do similarities reside in those who imitate socially. These two reasons are enough for us to demonstrate the set of theoretical potentialities inscribed in the revisiting of this classic.Metrics
