Abstract

In this study makes reflections on the importance of local History and Brazil for the teaching of History, since the textbooks, which are the primary tool the teacher's work, have neglected this aspect of the studies in history, it is up to teachers to task of filling this gap by investing in local research with their students. The work in question was born of the reflections of a professor of History and their experiences in the teaching-learning process in educational institutions of the state of the city of Chapadinha-MA. Through the experiments and experiences, the teacher and researcher were able to reflect on the teaching of local History and Brazil and, to some extent, a general framework on the teaching of this area of knowledge so necessary for the construction of citizenship.
