This essay reflects on the situation of women in class society, based on Heleith Saffioti's Marxist approach and its implications for life, work and the trade union movement. The essay discusses how the specific demands of women have been sidelined under the accusation that they divide the working class. The article argues that although the topic of class inequality has been widely studied by sociology, gender has been largely neglected by scholars. The author highlights the need to break the silence and consider the coextensive relationship between class and gender for a broader analysis of society.
