PortuguêsAbstract
This article brings data about Edgard and Guilherme, sons of the Brazilian writer José Bento Monteiro Lobato (1882-1948), when they were in the United States of America, where they moved in 1927 with the other family members. The writer had been appointed commercial attaché in that country by President Washington Luís (1869-1957) and the Lobato would remain there until 1931. The purpose is to present elements that make it possible to think about the existence of a plan drawn by the author up, glimpsed from the aptitudes of the children and the schooling chosen for them on American soil. The illness of Edgard, the eldest son, however, changes the project. The material presented here is part of a vigorous research on the period mentioned above and involves virtual consultation of newspaper collections in the country and abroad, records from different sectors and presentation of letters, testimonials and photos. The method is documentary, as the investigation uses primarily primary sources, in order to compose the biography of the Taubatean writer in the years considered, collaborating with future research.
