Abstract

In 2019, Chile faced a wave of protests against the system and the government that had its initial fuse to adjust public transport fares in a very similar way to "Brazilian Spring" in 2013 (Moraes & Santos, 2013).  Considering the importance that the offer of reliable sources of information exerts in democracies and participation in general is sought through a quasi-natural experiment to understand how the 2019 protests in Chile were "represented" within the agenda of interest of internet users, comprising here records of YouTube and Google News. The results indicate that 70% of the searches recorded on YouTube in relation to the protests in Chile can be explained by a previous interest in the news on the subject. This denotes in some way an integrative continuity where the individual seeks to make more robust his information by seeking different channels and forms of media, which can have an expressive effect on political participation in general (expanding the effect of protests).
