This article presents the results of a prospective study that intended to verify the predictive potential of some factors associated with the fear of crime expressed by the population of Benedito Bentes, the largest neighborhood of Maceió (capital of the state of Alagoas, Brazil). The research comprises a descriptive analysis of primary data based on a multivariate linear regression statistical model. Despite the different contexts that fit the reality of the analyzed neighborhood, some of the indicators selected for the study were better predictors than others in relation to the experienced feeling of fear, namely, the female gender, the non-white race/color, the disposition of watchdog, the disposition of self-defense skills and access to the internet as a source of information on crimes.
