Da cruz às espadas: A autoridade política no pensamento medieval ocidental

Abstract

Este ensaio pretende acompanhar, de um modo um tanto panorâmico, a evolução da noção de autoridade política no pensamento medieval ocidental, contemplando desde as idéias políticas de Agostinho, no século IV d.C., até a contribuição dos Franciscanos, no século XIV d.C. Em seguida, buscar-se-á identificar o momento da transição de uma concepção de autoridade política bastante pontuada por considerações religiosas para outra, de inspiração notadamente secular, que embasará as visões de mundo na modernidade.
